What is Reflective Glass?
Reflective glass is a type of flat glass coated with a special layer of metal oxide that reflects optical light, blocks ultraviolet (UV) rays, and provides effective thermal insulation—while still maintaining transparency and allowing natural light to pass through.
Definition
Reflective glass is a special type of glass coated on one surface with a metal oxide layer using either a thermal coating or vacuum coating process.
The primary purpose of reflective glass is to reflect sunlight and reduce heat gain. Higher-grade versions can also balance light levels and block harmful UV rays, thereby protecting human health.
Reflective glass is widely applied in curtain wall systems of modern high-rise buildings.
How to Identify Reflective Glass:
Method 1:
Touch both surfaces of the glass with your hand. If one side leaves clear, persistent fingerprints that are difficult to clean off by hand, that is the coated reflective surface.
Method 2:
Shine a light or small flame in front of the glass. If one side shows two reflections of the flame, the opposite side is the reflective-coated surface.
